LIGHTING THE WAY
A Christ-Centered Pathway to Recovery

People could use some good news.

Why aren’t you sharing it with them?

Discipleship is not about sales. Many Christians may believe that to be a good sharer of the Gospel that they should have a good “pitch” and need to be a good “closer”. Jesus said to go and make disciples and we can’t do that if we can’t “seal the deal”. We put pressure on ourselves to not mess up the pitch – or the key message – lest we fail in our “quota” of Christian conversions.

Let me ask you this: What is the gospel? Is it not the Good News? And when we have good news in our lives do we sell good news?

Of course we don’t.

We share our good news with anyone who will listen. Why, then, do we feel the need to sell the Good News?

The easy answer is that with our life’s good news we’re not looking to do anything beyond telling our good fortune. We’re not looking to get anyone to make a decision or act upon our good fortune (unless we scored some tickets to a really cool event, right?)

But here’s the main point.

If we accept that the gospel is sharing Good News, then there is no more important time than the present for us to be sharing the gospel with anyone and everyone who will listen.

In a time of pandemics, social unrest, social distancing, and anxiety over finances, safety, and health, people NEED hope. And hope is what Jesus has a never-ending supply. We know particularly in uncertainty times that we can lean in to Jesus and He will provide.

When life and circumstances are spinning out of control, Jesus is the rock we can grab on to and know that we will be saved, that nothing can stabilize our lives as when we put our hope and trust in Him.

Remember the book The Secret that encouraged us to “speak it into existence” and to “tell the universe what you want and it will come true”? That is built on a lot of falsehoods but also on the premise that someone, somewhere “out there” is listening and, upon hearing our words, will do something about our hopes.

But, the damaging thing is there is still a doubt if someone is listening and, if there is, who is it? And imagine if you keep speaking to the universe and nothing happens? Then you lose hope. Some secret.

We know who we are praying to, we know that He hears us, and we know that He won’t always give us what we want but what He knows we really need. In our best moments, in our worst moments, in stable times and in times of chaos, God is there. And He’s there for us because of what Jesus did during His time on Earth.

Jesus taught us how to live like Him, how to be able to live as He did, how to tell others about Him who may not yet know Him, and how we can restore our served relationship with the Lord through Him. That is the Good News. And it’s not a secret. It is known, just not shared.

And it is the epitome of hope. A hope millions could use right now.

Isn’t that some good news you have that could use some sharing?
