When Message Meets Marketer
God has given us all talents for us to use in His service as His servants. When Tony and I met, there was an instant synergy between servants. Anyone who has met Tony knows what an amazing communicator he is and that is – in part – to his personality and life experiences but mainly that talent is God-given.
Tony has an incredible message to share – it’s God’s message poured into and out of Him as a witness to others. My gift is in marketing and – as anyone in marketing will tell you – nothing gets a marketer more excited when she or he recognizes an irresistible product… one that is high quality and has a compelling message.
When I met Tony I first saw in him what I had prayed and hoped for in an ideal client. I saw how God was working through Tony in a way that was irresistible. I wanted what Tony had. I wanted God to work through me like He did Tony. I wanted to know what Tony did that transformed his life.
The more I got to know Tony, the more I wanted to write and share all of what God has done, and continues to do, in his life. I have been in the digital space since 2007, and it’s all about storytelling in a way that confirms some truth that deepens our understandings of who we are as human beings… and what God can do through us.
God has a history of playing matchmaker between message and marketer – the messenger – and we need to look no farther than Scripture.
When we examine the Bible we can see this isn’t the first time – or even the second – when God matched a message and a marketer for His purpose to witness to others and to create disciples. Nor was it the first time a marketer met – and got immediately excited by – an ideal client. I would direct you to Luke 1:41:
At the sound of Mary’s greeting, Elizabeth’s child leaped within her, and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit.
Yes, when the child in the womb who would become John the Baptist heard the voice of the mother who was carrying the Son of God, he instantly knew he had met the perfect client. John knew – even before being born or being able to speak – that Jesus was who he was destined to spread the word about, that his role was to “amplify” the coming of the Word and why people needed to be prepared to hear it. This was particularly important because people were expecting a conquering king, not a carpenter’s son, to be sent to them. John was sent in advance of Jesus to let people know of the delivery God had sent and why they needed to listen to the message and the messenger.
According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, amplification means “the particulars in which a statement is expanded.” So when God matches message to marketer, He has already prepared that person in advance so that His message would be shared far and wide.
We’re certainly not stating in any way that Tony and I are Jesus and John. However, God has used people throughout the Bible from Moses (messenger) and the Stone Tablets (message) in the Old Testament right through to today to share Him with others.
Tony and I are carrying on a tradition from The Great Commission – to go out and create disciples – just as we are to do. God is simply pairing another version of message meeting marketer to spread the Good News to people who aren’t expecting it yet need to hear it.
